RICH WINGO TO HEADLINE BBVA COMPASS BOWL FCA BREAKFAST
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Rich Wingo, who was a part of one of the most famous plays in college football history as a linebacker at the University of Alabama, will be the keynote speaker at the fourth annual BBVA Compass Bowl Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Breakfast presented by Northwestern Mutual of Alabama.
The FCA Breakfast will be held at the Sheraton Birmingham Ballroom on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2012, from 7:30-9 a.m. CT. Individual tickets are available for $25, while tables seating 10 are available for $250. Tickets can be reserved by phone at 205-298-9400 or by email at email@example.com.
Wingo, a native of Elkhart, Ind, played at Alabama from 1974-78 under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and was part of the famous “Goal Line Stand” in the 1978 Sugar Bowl when the Crimson Tide defeated Penn State to claim college football’s national championship.
After graduating from Alabama, Wingo went on to a successful seven-year career in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. In his first professional season in 1979, Wingo was named the Packers’ MVP and the team’s Rookie of the Year.
At the completion of his NFL career, Wingo coached at the University of Alabama from 1987-89. From 1990-2010, he served as president of AIG Baker Real Estate developing shopping centers. Wingo is currently the chief operating officer of United Assurance Corporation.
Wingo and his wife, Cheri, have two sons, Jake (26) and Luke (18). Jake is a teacher and head football coach at Sumter Academy in York, Ala., and Luke is a freshman quarterback at the University of North Alabama.
The seventh edition of the BBVA Compass Bowl will match teams from the BIG EAST Conference (Pittsburgh) against the SEC (Ole Miss). Players and coaches from both teams will attend the FCA Breakfast. The Bowl game will be played Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at noon at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., and will be aired nationally on ESPN and ESPN Radio.
