BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Bowl invites youths in the metro area to a free football fundamentals clinic sponsored by Alabama Power on Friday, June 7.
The football clinic is free and open to the first 300 youth, ages 8-13, who register online at www.BirminghamBowl.com. The clinic will be held at the Legacy Pavilion on the UAB campus. On-site check-in begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 7 with the clinic set to start promptly at 9 a.m. and end at noon.
UAB football coach Bill Clark and his coaching staff will once again lead the clinic, giving attendees the opportunity to participate in on-field agility drills and offensive and defensive fundamentals. Each attendee will receive a complimentary Birmingham Bowl T-shirt, a boxed lunch and two tickets for the 14th Annual Birmingham Bowl.
“We are excited to partner Alabama Power, Regions and UAB Head Football Coach Bill Clark to give area youth the opportunity to learn football fundamentals from a championship coaching staff. We hope our attendees will leave the clinic with some new skills and a greater understanding of teamwork,” said Mark Meadows, executive director of the Birmingham Bowl.
Starting in 2019, all volunteer youth sports coaches in Alabama will be required by state law to be trained and certified in compliance with the Coach Safely Act. This training course provides the necessary safety education for your coaches within your municipality or association to help keep our youth safe.
ESPN Events, in partnership with the Coach Safely Act Foundation and the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association, will offer volunteer coaches across all youth sports the opportunity to earn their certification and training during the Alabama Power – Birmingham Bowl Youth Clinic on June 7.
Registration for youth coaches is free and available to the first 100 coaches to register at www.BirminghamBowl.com. Youth parents are welcomed and strongly encouraged to observe and learn firsthand what will be required of youth coaches in their communities.
