BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The ninth annual Birmingham Bowl will be played Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., ESPN Events, a subsidiary of ESPN, announced today.

The game will feature a team from the Southeastern Conference against a team from the American Athletic Conference and will be televised nationally at 1 p.m. (ET)/Noon (CT) on ESPN or ESPN2.

“We are excited to be hosting our game on the final Saturday prior to the inaugural College Football Playoff Championship,” said Mark Meadows, Executive Director of the Birmingham Bowl. “This has been our traditional spot for the past five years and playing the game on a Saturday allows visiting fans the opportunity to travel to Birmingham for the weekend festivities and gives local fans the opportunity to participate in all of the bowl week activities leading up to the game.”

In last year’s game, Vanderbilt defeated Houston, 41‐24, in front of more than 42,000 fans, the second highest attendance in the bowl’s history ranking just behind the 2013 Bowl when a record 55,099 fans witnessed Ole Miss defeat Pittsburgh 38‐17.

Since the game’s inception in 2006, visitors in town for the Bowl and associated game-‐week activities have generated over $97 million in economic impact for the Birmingham community, according to figures provided by the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014. Ticket pricing will be $50 for East and West reserved sideline seating and $30 for general admission corner seats.
